Ethernet and VPX are always cropping up in presentations at the Embedded Tech Trends (ETT) conference—and for good reason. Ethernet is the de facto high-speed interconnect and VPX is the board standard that utilized Ethernet on the backplane. This series of videos provides more insight into the technology and its use.
Achieving the Pipe Dream
VPX likes to call Ethernet a pipe. Nigel Forrester, Director of Product Strategy at Concurrent Technologies, takes a look at "the benefits that can be realized by using separate control and data planes based on Ethernet and why using an analogous architecture to other markets and industries will pay dividends (watch the video above). Some of the benefits can be realized through flexible software applications and others through the use of real-time extensions."
10 Years of Ethernet Networks in VPX Embedded Systems
Interface Concept's Pierre Ansquer highlights the blend of Ethernet and VPX over the past decade. He examines how a tenfold increase in performance has pushed Ethernet to the forefront on control and data planes. He also discusses how Ethernet is central to SOSA as well as new Ethernet technology like time-sensitive networking (TSN).
